According to Swiss press reports, this year the Swiss watchmakers have reduced over 1000 of its employees. Without a job are as well Ebel, Zenith, Chopard, Maurice Lacroix, Girard-Perregaux, Roger Dubuis and Franck Muller Group watchmakers.
Other companies choose to have a reduce working day. For example, Cartier: about one half of the company’s employees from Switzerland (500 persons) are working just 40% of their full working day.
The reason for such rough measures is obvious – the decrease of demand for Swiss watches: from January to April, exports have decreased with 28%.
Not just the Swiss watchmakers are registering low incomes. Three of the biggest Japan watch companies are also stating losses according to the financial year totals, which have ended on March, 31. Citizen Group watch sales have decreased with 5,3%, the company’s income went down with 57,2%. Seiko sales have decreased with 20%, income – 82%. A rather better situation is registering Casio, which has announced a 7,6% sales decrease.
